Webcam check for motion games
Is your laptop or PC ready to play? Turn on the camera, step back, and see your body tracked in real time. It runs in your browser, and nothing is uploaded.
Stand about 4–6 ft (1.2–1.8 m) from the screen, then press Start.
Results appear here. Nothing leaves this browser tab.
Will my laptop work for motion games?
If it has a working webcam and the camera can see you from about 4–6 ft (1.2–1.8 m) away in a lit room, it very likely will. Fun Motion Labs games run on Windows and Mac laptops and PCs, with no console, sensor or controller. The check above tests the four things that matter:
- Camera: that a webcam is found, and its resolution.
- Light: whether the room is bright enough for tracking.
- Tracking speed: how many times a second your movement is read.
- Body in view: upper body for arm games, head to feet for running and fitness games.
How to test your webcam for motion games
- Put the laptop where it can see the room, ideally plugged into your TV with the webcam facing you.
- Clear about 4–6 ft of space and turn on a light in front of you.
- Press Start the webcam check and allow the camera when your browser asks.
- Step back until the lines turn green. Wave, reach and crouch to see the tracking follow you.
Quick fixes if a check fails
| Problem | Try this |
|---|---|
| Camera blocked | Click the camera icon in the address bar and allow it. On a Mac, also allow the browser in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera. |
| No camera found | Check the laptop’s camera switch or shutter, or plug in a USB webcam. |
| Camera in use | Close video-call apps, then start again. |
| Too dark | Light in front of you, not behind you. |
| Body cut off | Step back, or tilt the screen so the camera points at you. |
| Slow tracking | Close other apps and browser tabs, and plug the laptop in. |
Questions
Will my laptop work for motion games?
If it has a working webcam (built in or USB) and the camera can see you from about 4–6 ft (1.2–1.8 m) away in a lit room, it very likely will. Fun Motion Labs games run on Windows and Mac. The check on this page shows in about a minute whether your camera, light and space are ready.
Is my webcam video uploaded during the check?
No. The body-tracking model runs inside this browser tab. No video, picture or tracking data is sent to us or anyone else. The games work the same way: tracking and voice commands run on your computer, and your webcam video is never saved or uploaded.
Why does the check say my body is cut off?
The camera needs to see your head, shoulders, arms and hands. Step back until they all fit, or tilt the laptop screen back. For running and fitness games, step back further so your legs are in view too.
What if the light is too dark?
Turn on a light in front of you, facing you. A bright window or lamp behind you makes the camera darken your body, which makes tracking harder.
Do I need a special camera?
No. The webcam built into most laptops works. A plug-in USB webcam helps if your built-in one is low resolution, or if you want to put the camera on top of a TV.
Does this check use the same tracking as the games?
It uses a similar pose model in the browser, so it is a quick guide. The games themselves run in the free Fun Motion Labs launcher, not in the browser.
