The wish list says "the jumping game from the ad." You find it, see the price and the Play Pass, and open a second tab. Is there something like Nex but cheaper, or with no subscription? What else is out there that lets a 5-year-old play by moving, with no controllers in hand?
The short answer: The main Nex Playground alternatives in 2026 are two other camera boxes for the TV (LeapFrog LeapMove, made for ages 4 to 7, and KINHANK MotionX), Switch games such as Just Dance and Switch Sports, and webcam games on a computer, such as the free Zazti. Each maker's own page, checked 31 October 2026, lists different ages, costs and moves.
We make Fun Motion Labs, so weigh our entry with that in mind. Every other fact in this list of Nex Playground alternatives comes from the maker's own page. Prices and availability were checked on 31 October 2026 (Nintendo and Ubisoft prices on 29 October). Nothing here is ranked.
What else is like Nex Playground?
Games like Nex Playground come in three kinds. LeapMove and MotionX are camera boxes that plug into the TV. Just Dance, Switch Sports and Ring Fit are Switch games you play by moving, with a Joy-Con or phone doing the tracking. Zazti, Starri and our games use the webcam on a computer, so they can skip the TV.
For reference, Nex recommends Nex Playground for ages 5 and up. Its Play Pass opens more than 60 games beyond the five in the box. Nex's site lists four countries, including the US and the UK.

Nex Playground alternatives side by side
Nex Playground's closest competitors differ most in what you need to own, whether there's a subscription and how the maker says the body moves.
| Option | What you need to own | How you pay (US, checked Oct 2026) | How the body moves (based on the maker's description) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nex Playground (for reference) | The Nex box, a TV with HDMI | $299 with 5 games; optional Play Pass $89 a year or $49 for 3 months | "Uses body motion", "No controllers needed" |
| LeapFrog LeapMove | The unit, a TV with HDMI; a computer to register it | About $60 to $70 at Target; no subscription mentioned | "Run, kick and jump" |
| KINHANK MotionX | The box, a TV with HDMI; an account and internet for setup | $219.99; optional membership | "Jump, reach, swing or squat as the game directs" |
| Just Dance 2026 Edition | A Switch, Switch 2, PS5 or Xbox Series X|S; a phone for camera mode | $49.99; optional Just Dance+ from $4.99 a month | Dancing; "Use your whole body" with the phone camera (one player) |
| Switch Sports or Ring Fit Adventure | A Switch or Switch 2 with Joy-Con | $39.99, or $79.99 suggested price | Swinging Joy-Con; jogging in place and overhead presses (Ring Fit) |
| Zazti | A computer with a webcam and a browser | Free | "Jump, duck, wave" |
| Starri (made by Nex) | A Windows or Mac computer with a webcam; Steam | $17.99 on Steam | A "body-controlled rhythm game" |
| Fun Motion Labs (we make this) | A Windows or Mac computer with a webcam; TV optional | Buy each game once; launching November 2026 | Varies by game; mostly arms and reaching for under-6s |
We haven't played every option here, so this compares what each maker says. It can't tell you how well each camera follows a jumping child.
Nex Playground
Nex asks for about 1.8 x 1.8 m (6 x 6 ft) of play space. It says tracking happens on the device and no video is saved (Nex), and a magnetic privacy cover comes in the box. Good fit if: you want a TV box and your child is 5 or older. Check first: whether you'd want the Play Pass.
LeapFrog LeapMove
LeapFrog's pages say ages 4 to 7 (one country page says 4+), and that LeapMove records no video. Its setup page asks for 1.8 m (6 ft) back from the TV and 1.5 m (5 ft) clear on each side. Only the player should be in view. Good fit if: a 4 to 7 year old and a one-time buy. Check first: you'll need a computer and internet to register it and add games.
KINHANK MotionX
If you're weighing Nex Playground vs MotionX, both are camera boxes for the TV. KINHANK says more than 40 games stay playable without its membership, and that camera video is processed on the device and not uploaded (KINHANK). Its "3+" label is a product-safety grading, not an age guide. Good fit if: you want a TV box with most games included. Check first: setup needs an account and internet, and delivery countries aren't stated.
Just Dance 2026 Edition
Just Dance is rated E for Everyone, up to six can dance together, and a month of Just Dance+ comes with it. The phone camera mode follows one dancer. Good fit if: you already own a Switch, PlayStation or Xbox. Check first: more songs need the optional Just Dance+.
Switch Sports and Ring Fit Adventure
Both are rated E10+, and neither uses a camera. Switch Sports takes up to four on one console; Ring Fit is for one, with a ring and leg strap in the box. Good fit if: your child can hold a Joy-Con. Check first: the E10+ rating, and on a Switch 2, Ring Fit needs older Joy-Con to fit the ring (Nintendo).
Zazti
Zazti lists 13 free games for ages 3 and up and says "no video is ever uploaded." Good fit if: you'd like to try camera play tonight. Check first: it runs in a browser, and its site doesn't mention offline play.
Starri
Starri is Nex's own webcam rhythm game for Windows and Mac, with 50+ songs and local play for two (Steam). Steam shows no age rating. It also shows that a webcam game on a laptop isn't unique to us. Good fit if: you like Nex's style but would rather use a computer. Check first: it's one game, and it needs a Steam account.
Two things apply to every option, ours included. Any active game can lose its pull after a few weeks, and camera tracking works best with decent light and one player in frame.
Which one fits a 5-year-old, a laptop and a small living room?
For a 5-year-old, the right pick depends on what you already own, your floor space and how you feel about subscriptions. With a laptop and a small living room, you can start without new hardware.
- If you already own a Switch, Just Dance (rated E) lets up to six dance. Switch Sports and Ring Fit are rated E10+.
- For a TV box and a 4 to 7 year old, LeapMove is made for that age band. MotionX includes most games without a membership.
- Asking "do I really need another console?" A laptop webcam can do the job, with Zazti, Starri or our games from November.
- In a small apartment (a flat in the UK) with neighbors below, games that are mostly arms and reaching mean less jumping. There are more quiet ideas for small spaces.
None of these has to be the big present. A free browser game is an easy way to see if your child likes camera play before anything gets bought.
Any of them is one extra way to move, alongside outdoor play, sport and free play. We cover whether active games count as exercise separately.
Can you skip the subscription?
Yes. Finding a Nex Playground alternative without a subscription is easy. LeapMove, Switch Sports, Ring Fit, Zazti, Starri and our games show none on the pages we checked. Nex, MotionX and Just Dance sell an optional one.
What does the Play Pass add? Nex says it opens the rest of the library, and one pass covers two consoles in a home. The five starter games stay playable without it. MotionX keeps more than 40 games without its membership, and Just Dance+ adds songs.
Where our games fit, and where they don't
Our games suit families who'd rather use the Windows or Mac laptop or PC, with a webcam, they already have. They aren't a TV box or a Switch game. We make Fun Motion Labs, so weigh our entry with that in mind.
You need about 1.2 to 1.8 m (4 to 6 ft) of clear space. The TV is optional, by HDMI. You buy each game once. Games download, then play offline; the internet is only for downloads and online multiplayer. Tracking and voice commands run on your computer. Your webcam video is never saved or uploaded.
Each game shows its own age guide. In Learn & Leap (3 to 7), kids reach for the right number, letter or color; in Zombie Run (6+), they run, jump and duck. See our games page and news about our November launch. Good fit if: you'd rather not buy more hardware. Check first: we launch in November 2026, so there are no reviews yet, and system requirements come at launch. The games for under-6s are mostly arms and reaching.
Try this today
Ten minutes of homework helps.
- Note what you already own: a Switch, a laptop with a webcam, a spare HDMI port.
- Measure the clear floor in front of the screen.
- Add up each option's first-year cost, any subscription included.
- Check the maker's age guide against your child's age.
- If you're unsure, try a free browser game first.
The second tab can stay open for a few days. The wish list only says "the jumping game from the ad," and more than one box, or no box at all, could fill that line.
FAQ
Is there a cheaper alternative to Nex Playground?
Several list prices are lower, but the total depends on what you already own. On 31 October 2026, MotionX was $219.99, LeapMove about $60 to $70 at Target, and Starri $17.99 on Steam; Zazti was free. Just Dance was $49.99 on 29 October, plus the console it needs.
Is there a free Nex Playground alternative?
Yes. Zazti's webcam games are free in a web browser, for ages 3 and up, the maker says (checked 31 October 2026). You need a computer with a webcam and room for your child's whole body to show on screen.
